Supposing that you are seriously considering to buy property
in Morocco, there are compelling reasons to choose Marrakech,
the principal city in southern Morocco. Marrakech is said to
have 1,000,000 inhabitants. The indigenous people here are mostly
Berbers, rather than Arabs and for a very long time there has
been a European community. The city is relatively 'young', slightly
less than 1000 years old! Enough time though to have become
highly sophisticated and civilised.
Marrakech has the biggest 'souk' in all of Morocco and
also probably the most famous and buzzing public square
in all of Northern Africa. But away from the noise and
bustle of souk and square there are a multitude of gardens,
both large and small, almost all with a running water
feature. The Moroccans are amongst the most skilful garden
makers in the World. These gardens are places where you
can sit in tranquil surroundings, consider how good life
can be and enjoy the clean air and luminous colours which
permeate all of this magic city.
Then if you are a keen student of history, there will be enough
here in Marrakech for a lifetime's study. Everywhere there is
evidence of a glorious past, art, architecture and dress. Perhaps
however your particular pleasure is food and drink. You will
be spoilt for choice as Moroccan cuisine is exceptional and
very much to European taste, Moroccan wine too is outstandingly
good. But it would take a lifetime to visit even half of the
town's restaurants.
Maybe sport is your passion, if so note that facilities
for every kind abound here. Even ski-ing this far south,
for Marrakech is barely 100km from the Atlas Mountains
and the highest peak in all of Morocco is snow-bound Jebel
Toubkal at 4165m.
It's all there.... In Marrakech.'
